Free speech under attack…again

July 9th, 2009 - Written by Joey

The thing that lefties don’t understand is that when power changes hands, their clever little ways of dissolving liberties can be quickly turned on them.   They think they’re silencing dissent–and they are–but they’re too consumed with silencing the opposition to even consider how laws like this could be turned on them.

This is why I get so irritated when I get those emails from such-and-such family council, telling me to email Fox and tell them to stop portraying Christians as horrible people on the Family Guy because it’s ‘offensive’ to Christians.   Who the flip cares?  Here’s a novel idea:  Don’t watch it.   If someone calls you a name, why do you care?  Are we really so fragile?  And do we really need to burn the First Amendment because some adolescent girl couldn’t mentally or emotionally handle some cyber-bullies?  If I’m going to lose my right to free speech, I would hope that these dipsticks in Congress could come up with a less insulting justification for it.

America needs a refresher course on freedom.  Our Constitution can be summed up in this simple phrase:  My rights end where yours begin, and vice versa.  I have the right to call Al Gore a self-absorbed, tyrannical boob, and the Family Guy has a right to bash Christians.  That’s America.  That’s freedom.

And might I add that I’m sick and blasted tired of politicians using random tragedies as an excuse to take more and more of our freedoms from us.   I suppose I should be fair and point out that most of them were lawyers in their previous lives, and they automatically possess this natural capacity to exploit any and all unfortunate circumstances for their own personal benefit.  They can’t help it.  It’s a part of them.  We just have to stop electing them.
