My chat with an Obama campaigner
October 1st, 2008 - Written by Joey
Last night, one of these poor souls called my home phone.
First, she asked me if I knew who I was voting for. I said no, even though I’ll most likely vote for McCain, but am growing increasingly frustrated with his seeming inability to confront the Obama campaign head-on. Instead, I hear this ‘bi-partisan’ crap when he has literally mountains of evidence to bury Obama (and Democrats in general) over this financial crisis. Argh.
Anyway, she told me that she had never done anything like this before, and had never campaigned for anyone in her life. I sensed weakness, so I attacked.
Don’t get me wrong, I was nice to her. But I did put her in a very uncomfortable situation when she started rattling off talking points about Obama being against ‘golden parachutes’ for wealthy CEO’s and I began questioning her on what Obama would do with Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank, since they have been reaping the benefits of sweetheart deals and campaign contributions from Freddie and Fannie. I also asked her if she knew that Barack Obama has received the second-highest amount of campaign funds of all time from Freddie and Fannie of all politicians, and that he accomplished this only the last two years. She didn’t, but since she had no clue about the Freddie and Fannie fiasco, this didn’t seem to phase her. She also had no clue who Christopher Dodd and Barney Frank were. She thought they were CEO’s. Oh, sweet irony.
I ended the conversation by telling her that Obama is protecting these wealthy and powerful people that caused this whole mess, that I respectfully disagreed with her, and told her that I was glad she was getting involved, but she had best be more informed.
She thanked me and said goodbye.
I hope I get more of these phone calls.
