Greenwashed Capitalism

June 5th, 2008

I found this great story of capitalism, ingenuity, and the beauty of free markets…

… on Treehugger.com.

Don’t you find it odd that the only socially-accepted form of capitalism today is one that’s eco-focused?

Let’s be honest with ourselves… If these people were making their bags out of wool from a farmer’s sheep, there’d be socialists aplenty screaming about this operation.  Stylish handbags that sell for 75% of the workers’ monthy salaries?  It’d be a travesty if they weren’t doing the ‘Lord’s work’.

  1. Bob Blake Says:

I grew up on a farm in Northern Illinois. In the early 50’s the “breadman” would come to our home twice a week to deliver bread—-in plastic wrappers. It was quite a treat to the women of the house not to have to bake bread regularly. The plastic wrappers were saved and converted to rugs which protected the kitchen floor for years before they were burned on the garbage pile in the bag of the garden. The smoke and PCP’s and whatever else the fire gave off probably killed all the nasty bugs that would have otherwise been eating our garden goods…….now that I think about it—-that might explain my three eyed cousin—-the Senator!!! hmmmmm
