I became a single mother at the age of nineteen, and worked as a poultry butcher for $6.25 an hour to support my son. I worked my way into the office as an assistant, and eventually found myself in my current position as a manager for a large manufacturer Wisconsin.
My conservative activism began when I was in the fifth grade, when I led a campaign for Ronald Reagan in our school elections. In high school, I wrote a conservative column in our school newspaper, “The Crier”.
Although I didn’t gain a journalism degree as I had anticipated, I have found that life can sometimes be the greatest teacher. For as long as I can remember, my mother would constantly remind me how lucky we were to live in freedom, and how we should never take for granted the ultimate sacrifice that so many men had made so that we could enjoy these freedoms. Her words have always stayed with me. Even when I was a poor, single mother, I knew that in order to give back to society, I needed to be responsible for myself and my own actions, and to recognize that my freedom was a blessing not to be taken for granted. My conservatism was strengthened because I saw – firsthand – the truth behind it.
I have been known to disrupt Town Hall meetings, including yelling out a “Yes!” to Dave Obey, who had asked the crowd if we thought that America had “done enough” for Hurricane Katrina Victims. (He ignored me, by the way. I don’t know how. I was sitting in the front row.)
Pheistyblog is my labor of love and my committment to keeping America free. I don’t spare any feelings, because I don’t believe that ‘feelings’ are something that make good public policy. My main goal is to remind America – not just tell them – how precious freedom is, and that we should never cheapen the deaths of so many men by becoming indifferent to that freedom.
I hope you enjoy your time here, and I hope that you take the time to leave comments on my posts. I welcome all opinions, and love a good debate, so if you’re not of the conservative persuasion, I would encourage you to post your thoughts, as well.
Ciao!
